Product Description Melodic power pop with female vocals, catchy hooks and sing-along lyrics best describe "Back to our Roots." From the Label "Back to our Roots" - Slugger have one really strong selling point: The vocals of Trish Shallest and Hayley Tapp. These two guitarists have harmonies that the muses usually reserve for siblings. This alone is often enough to sell me on a disc, but Slugger also have the added benefit of good songwriting and strong playing. The band plays tight, rockish pop that's sometimes reminiscent of the Go-Go's (a good thing), although Slugger are far better musicians; it takes more than once through the song to have the rhythm, lead and bass parts figured out, especially when Shallest really starts ripping into her Tele. They also sound a bit like a heavier Fuzzy or Voice of the Beehive. The production is nice and tight, far better than one would expect from a newish band that doesn't play out a whole bunch. "Back to our Roots" is a strong debut that suffers from few of the flaws most rookie bands have. About the Artist Slugger played their second show in March of '97 to a sold out crowd at the Sit 'n Spin in Seattle, WA. Since then, Slugger has continued to develop a following throughout the northwest and has had tracks from "Back to our Roots" played on many local radio stations, including KNDD (the End), KISW, KCMU, The Mountain and C-89.
